2015 SHARE Student Survey Data –Renville County with comparisons to the 5 county area. The drug and alcohol questions in the SHARE survey is conducted annually to 7th, 9th and 11th graders. There were 5,292 total student responses in the 5 counties and 792 in Renville County from BLHS, BOLD, Cedar Mountain & RCW. Currently we collect Past 30 Day Use for the DFC federal reporting on Alcohol, Tobacco, Marijuana and Prescription Drugs & Perception of Harm, Peer Disapproval & Parent Disapproval. Renville County did have a significantly more negative Tobacco and Alcohol use rates than the 5 county average this survey. When asked “How did you get the alcohol you used?” The 2nd leading answer was “Parents gave it to them.” Now that is something to address. When asked “What is the main way you got the tobacco you used?” #1 answer~Got it from friends over 18 and 2nd highest reported “Bought it myself from a store.” Working with our licensed tobacco retailers to card effectively will be a priority during Tobacco Compliance Checks. A positive result was for student connectedness was significantly more positive for students comfort at talking about problems at school with their counselors.
