Coalition members discussed how businesses can also get insurance discounts for these trainings. Renville County Sheriff Compliance checks will be conducted this summer, so the trainings are good to have available. Coalition members discussed the tobacco billboard and members did not like the photo (looks like it is encouraging flavored tobacco) and said the wording was difficult to see while driving past at 55mph. Annie suggested the coalition could design it’s own billboard. Coalition members are in favor of less wording a different picture. Don Orth suggested Annie speak to Kevin Springer to get better pricing on the billboard.
New Business: JIll Bruns talked with coalition members about watching a video “Paper Tigers” about how a school is helping troubled students to build resiliency. She was asked to be part of a panel to give feedback. May is mental health month and this video discusses a difficult subject with the students possibly having some background of ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences) such as death in the family, substance abuse, physical abuse, etc. Jill would like the coalition to continue to have an ongoing discussion in the subject because ACES relate to substance abuse. There is bonus content coalition members can view at: http://kpjrfilms.co/paper-tigers/bonus-content/ Jill passed out the Renville County Health department health report and health risk assessment to coalition members. Coalition members talked about adding electronic devices to the Parental Guidance Campaign. http://www.preventioncampaigns.com/portfolio-view/lparental-guidance-required/ Coalition members had a brief discussion about Renville County Fair planning for members to volunteer at the booth, August 10th, 11th and 12th. Annie plans to have a theme about tobacco to inform fair goers and invite discussion.

Each school can add their own message on the banners. Annie shared that there is a Crisis Response Team that helped students get through Nathan Kleinschmidt suicide & that she took part in the debriefing for the crisis team. Guia Program: Jennifer shared that she is going to be available to the youth during the summer. She stated that many youth had asked her for a ride home instead of asking their parents because of the trust that has been built.
