RAPAD Coalition Meeting Minutes – September 2016

Present: Jennifer Mendoza, Guia; Janine kramer, Olivia’s House of Hope; Christa Otteson, PACT For Families Evaluator; Chuck Blum, Lakeland Broadcasting; LaMont Jacobson, County Commissioner; Tom Kroes, BOLD Social Worker; David Torgelson, County Attorney; Derek Lee, Olivia PD; Tom Swyter, RC Sheriff Deputy; Sarah Reznechek, RCW Social Worker

LaMont leading the meeting. Approval of Meeting Minutes –no action currently. Additions to Agenda and approved.

Old Business

RAPAD Year 6 Budget carry over has been spent with requests going to School Youth Group activities to Cedar Mountain, St. Mary’s,BOLD, RCW and BLHS

Program Sharing- St Cloud Oct 20 & 21- Please let Annie know if you can attend. We do have some funding for registration and hotel expenses. LaMont, Annie, Jill Bruns abnd Leah will be presenting at one of the break-out sessions.

Monthly Coalition Meeting Day & Time Change was discussed. It was decided that our monthly coalition meetings will be moved to the 4th Tuesday of the month. Same time and location 12:00 Noon at Max’s Grill in Olivia.

Mandatory Tobacco retailer retraining- Recheck Compliance Checks~Abby Riley & Dana Athman helped as the minors. All checks and re-checks came back positive. No retailer sold to the minors which was a first for the checks. The fines and education are making a difference. LaMont discussed the Lyon County Tobacco Ordinance work and how they are having a harder time with business owners standing in the way of change referring to loss of business. LaMont is looking into RAPAD T-Shirts for members to wear with the RAPAD logo on them. He will get back to us by next meeting with our choices. Annie let the members know that Jodie Olson RPG, resigned and now Project Turnabout is now taking applications for her replacement. Hopefully by the end of October we will have a replacement for her position.

New Business-Renville County Parent ENewsletter via Constant Contact went out this month. Annie will contact school admin to see if it can be sent out to parents via the school email list. Tom Kroes-“Keep Calm & Lead On”Youth Leadership Training  Oct. 14th Transportation has been figured out as he can drive one of the busses with the student attending. Schools & Youth Groups RCW had a TZD day with Law Enforcement and a roll over simulator demonstration before homecoming. BOLD, St. Mary’s- needs new updated Slick Tracy curriculum, BLHS~ Michelle Mehlberg is interested in doing Prevention activities, Cedar Mt. – Paula Sturm is making plans for her STARS Youth Group.

David Torgelson- Drugged Driving Summit report that he attended and had a great speaker tell his personal story Dick Beardsley of injury pain and addiction to prescription opioids.

Tom Swyter-2016 Alcohol Compliance Checks discussion that they conducted 23 checks and 2 failed. 1 was dismissed and 1 to litigation.

Alcohol Quiz online- Chuck Blum informed us about the efforts between RAPAD and Lakeland Broadcasting teaming up to have some fun and take a online Alcohol quiz with a chance to enter your name in a drawing to win one of two $100 gift cards.

Saving Lives: Opioid Crisis Symposium Minneapolis- Susan, Janine, Annie, Pablo, Glen Jacobnson attended. It was a very good conference with tremendous amount of information but now what do we do with this for our communities. We will be doing a presentation to PACT For Families Full Collaborative on Wed. Oct 12th in Granite Falls at Project Turnabout.

RCW Homecoming Banner Ad *in the Register newspaper. Mousepads were printed and distributed to all Renville County Libraries.

Reports 

Guia Program- Jenifer Mendoza reported on her program in Renville County. They are busy with Latino youth and families.

Olivia’s House of Hope- Janine Kramer- Transitional Housing for women coming out of jail or treatment. They have a house to rent from the city of Olivia and hope to be up and running by January 2017.

 Chuck-Media- Lakeland Broadcasting- Community Spotlight! Is running the month of Sept. till the 30th. Hannah Dockendorf and Annie recorded an ad on Flavored Tobacco Products and Youth.

Law Enforcement- Derek Lee,Olivia Chief, had a request for collaboration in purchasing Marijuana Goggles and Pedal Cars to use in the schools with presentations to students. The coalition voted to help with half of the cost of $720 to the Olivia Police Dept. Police now trained in using Narcan.
