Mission: Engage Renville County members in reducing substance use through awareness, policy, enforcement, education and training

Approval of Meeting Minutes & Agenda- LaMont moved Chuck 2nd
Financial report: Chuck made a motion to Carry Over- $22,258.40 to Year 6 budget. LaMont 2nd. Motioned passed. Discussion by coalition members to best utilize some of the unobligated funding is to have specific people including youth attend the Mid-Year CADCA National Leadership Forum in July. Jill commented that we need to build capacity in BLHS, BOLD or GFW so maybe someone from one of those school districts could attend. Other goals that align with our strategic plan
- Youth Leadership training for all 5 school districts
- Media Campaign with KOLV Radio, Lamar billboard-Tobacco Still a Problem
- Program Sharing Conference attendance by coalition members
- Update RAPAD website routinely
- Brochures/Marijuana, Tobacco, Alcohol use, RAPAD Coalition
- In-Kind Match Documentation- staff time accountant Kari Klages
Monthly Community Outputs and Champions shared with coalition members.
La Mont shared that the Sarah Reznechek and the TADA youth helped pack meals for the hungry in Sacred Heart. BOLD- 21st Century After School Program may be a fit for a youth group that could be interested in working with RAPAD to do some prevention work in the school.
Guia Program– Pablo handed out brochures on the Guia program and is looking for referrals of Latino youth who have been dealing with alcohol or drug use. He sets goals with the students, drug education and works with parents too in the RCW, BOLD, Willmar and YME school. Jennifer and Pablo can work with 25 youth age 14-17. Jill commented on Pablo’s work that even postponing youth drug or alcohol use for a year can be a success.
Faith Based– Pastor Dave Drager met with the ministerial group from BLHS to give a short introduction about RAPAD and how we can work together. He will work on setting a date in the future for Annie to come and do a presentation to the Ministerial Group and also invite the principal and social worker from the high school.
October election of new officers for 2015-2016– Steering Committee. Chair- Susan Williams, Vice Chair- Jennifer Mendoza/Dave Drager, Secretary- Virginia Sullivan.
Brain Conference– Willmar HS Thurs. Nov 19th 3:00- 8:30- Susan reported about the Keynote speaker Yani Danilov- a scientist who has been studying and preforming restorative therapies to people impacted by MS, Parkinsons, TBI, and more. Amazing research that proves by attaching electrodes to the tongue the brain can rewire its patterns and find new pathways to sight, walking, and physical impairments.
10 Facts You Didn’t Know About Drugs- New Info graph about prescription Drug use and overdoses. “The US has 5% of the world’s population and consumes 75% of the world’s prescription opioids.”
By Laws changes discussed at the October coalition meeting were discussed again. vote by Jill made a motion to adopt and Chuck seconded it. Motion passed. Hannah shared with the members that SHIP and RAPAD are working together to contact all of the city offices and send out Smoke Free Housing resources. The city offices have updated mailing lists of current housing managers for us to contact.
Jill- Tobacco Retailor training- on line for retailers and she will show us the training info at our next coalition meeting. She has mailed out the new tobacco license applications along with the current mandatory training material to be completed before Jan. 1st. She has been notified by B & D Market in Olivia they will no longer be selling tobacco at their store anymore.
New Business– was tabled until next monthly meeting because we had to leave our meeting room by 1:00 pm as another group was using that section of the restaurant.
